This page is about this website. Maran, the software, runs on your server: what it stores about your customers is on your machine, under your control, and is never sent anywhere.

What this site stores in your browser

Two cookies: maran_locale, holding the language you chose, and maran_theme, holding the dark or light theme. They exist so a returning reader gets the site the way they left it. Neither carries an identifier, and neither is used to recognise anyone.

Nothing else: no analytics script, no advertising pixel, no third-party tag, and no embedded player that would set cookies of its own. Documentation search runs in your browser against an index the page already downloaded, so what you search for is never sent to a server — ours or anybody's.

What a web server records

Requests to this site are served by an ordinary web server, which writes the usual access log: address, time, the page asked for, and the browser's user agent string. That log is operational — it is how an error or an attack is investigated — and it is not combined with anything else or used to build a profile.

Fonts and assets

Every font, script and image this site uses is served from this site. Nothing loads from a third-party network, so no third party learns that you visited.

The panel itself

Maran stores what a hosting panel must: accounts, sites, databases, an audit journal of sign-ins and changes. All of it lives in the PostgreSQL database on your own server, which listens on a local socket with no network port at all. The one connection the software makes outward is the licence check for commercial modules, described on the licence and pricing page.
