Who publishes Maran

Innovayse LLC is the licensor and copyright holder of Maran. The software is published under the Business Source License 1.1, which converts to Apache 2.0 on 29 August 2030 — a date written into the licence rather than promised.

What that means for you

You may install Maran and run it in production, including hosting your own paying customers on it, at no cost. What the licence reserves is Maran itself as a product: offering it to third parties as a managed control panel service, or selling it on as your own. The full terms are on the licence page.

The panel and the modules that make it a hosting panel are free to self-host. Commercial modules are distributed through the Innovayse marketplace and require a licence key; that key is verified offline against a signed file, and when the licence service cannot be reached, only commercial modules stop — the core never does.

How the project is run

Maran is developed in the open, and the engineering rules it is built to are published with it: what may be written, what the root daemon is allowed to do, how a privileged change is reviewed. Some of those rules are unusual on purpose — no shell strings anywhere, a closed typed contract between the panel and the agent, and a second reviewer plus a written threat note for any change to authentication, privileges, licence verification or the installer.

Contributions are welcome and keep their author's copyright. The licence is about selling the software as a service, not about who may work on it.

Maran is named after the մառան — the vaulted cellar an Armenian household keeps its stores safe in. The mark is the keystone at the crown of that vault: the one stone that makes the others hold.
